The APEP Pathway
The Australian Physiotherapy Entry Pathway (APEP) — the APC's official pathway since 1 October 2025 — followed by AHPRA registration.
Eligibility Assessment
- Verify your physiotherapy qualifications & credentials
- Confirm you meet APC entry requirements
- On success, receive an Interim Certificate (valid 2 years)
Cultural Safety Training
- Mandatory self-paced online CST module
- Culturally safe practice for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples
- Required before the Written Assessment
Written Assessment
- Online — 2 papers on the same day (2h each)
- 15 clinical cases · 60 MCQs per paper (120 total)
- Uncapped attempts · 14-day wait between resits
Capability Assessment
- Remote live 1.5h open-book oral/viva exam
- 1:1 with an Australian physiotherapist examiner
- Scored across 9 competency domains
Clinical Workshop
- Full-day in-person small-group training & assessment
- Held at the APC's Melbourne facility
- Final stage → receive your APEP Final Certificate
Apply for AHPRA Registration
- Separate step after your APEP Final Certificate
- Provide English proficiency (IELTS/OET/PTE/TOEFL)
- Apply to AHPRA for General Registration
Registered Physiotherapist
- Once AHPRA approves, you're eligible to practise as a Registered Physiotherapist in Australia.

APEP vs AHPRA — the difference
The APC runs the APEP assessment and issues your Final Certificate. Registration is a separate step: you then apply to AHPRA for General Registration. English proficiency (IELTS/OET/PTE/TOEFL) is required by AHPRA — not for the APC assessments, which are simply conducted in English.
